ACCOR has added the Mercure Rama 9 hotel to its growing portfolio of Mercure properties is Asia by recently assuming management of the property. The 350-room hotel includes 43 appointed suites and two presidential suites. It is located near Bangkok's emerging Ratchadapisek Road commercial and entertainment corridor with easy access to Bangkok International Airport and the soon-to-open Bangkok Mass Rapid Transit underground system. The Mercure Rama 9 Bangkok recently added the Sara Spa and Health Club on the 11th floor. It is also well suited for MICE events, with a ballroom capable of handling 800 participants theatre style with seven breakout rooms and a fully equipped business centre.

Accor senior vice-president - Asia, Reggie Shiu, said the hotel was well suited for the Mercure brand and would appeal to Accor's customer base in Asia. "We are pleased to add the hotel to the Mercure family. There is growing demand from our corporate and leisure customers for the Mercure brand in Asia. It will be a valued addition to our offering in Bangkok and added to our network of over 700 Mercure hotels worldwide."

Maxx Hotel managing director, Virabhand Chattrabhuti, agreed: "We are delighted to add the Mercure branding to the hotel and look forward to entering Accor's sales and distribution network. Our location as the first hotel to the up-coming Second Bangkok International Airport at Nong Ngu Hao via the motorway will be an attractive selling point."

The Mercure Rama 9 Bangkok is another addition to Accor's expanding Mercure portfolio in Asia. The company recently announced an agreement with Beijing Tourism Group for master franchise rights to manage and expand the Mercure brand north of China's Yangtze River, with 20 hotels targeted by 2005. During 2001 the Mercure Kuta Bali in Indonesia and Panwa Beach Resort in Phuket, which will be rebranded Mercure Panwa Beach Resort by May 2002, were added to the network. In Thailand, Accor also manages the Mercure Hotel Chonburi and the Mercure Coralia Resort on Koh Samui.
