Hotel Plaza picks Accor to manage property in Myanmar

Singapore-based Hotel Plaza Ltd, which recently acquired the 359-room Yangon Equatorial, has chosen Accor Asia Pacific to manage the hotel.

It has also appointed the hotel giant to manage the Garden Plaza Parkroyal in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Myanmar property, which will be rebranded as the Hotel Sofitel Plaza Yangon, is Accor’s second property in Myanmar after the Novotel in Mandalay.

The Hotel Sofitel Plaza Yangon has a new GM, Rodney Trutwein, who was previously based at the Accor Jakarta regional office. At press time, former GM Duncan Maclean had not yet decided on his immediate future. DOSM Saha Saisanan has stayed on with the new management company.

The 156-room Ho Chi Minh City property will be rebranded as the Novotel Garden Plaza Saigon. It is Accor’s sixth property in Vietnam after the Sofitel Metropole Hanoi, Sofitel Dalat Palace, Novotel Dalat and Novotel Coralia Ocean Dunes Resort Phan Thiet.

Meanwhile, Accor has been awarded the management contract for the 454-room Monarch Lee Gardens Hotel and will rebrand the property the Sofitel Silom Bangkok next year after a US$6.5 million upgrade and refurbishment. Located on Silom Road in the heart of Bangkok’s financial and business districts, it will be become the first five-star hotel in the area by early 2002.
